5th Workshop on medicinal plants in Western Ghats

About the Workshop:
The focus of the workshop is on study of the medicinal plants of the Western Ghats in their natural habitat. The ecology, identification, collection & processing methods of medicinal plants along with preparation of herbarium will be the core areas of the workshop. The related issues like Bio-diversity, Ethnomedicine, etc., will also be discussed. The theme for 5th workshop is “Herbals to Phytopharmaceuticals: Approaches and Applications”. As there has been a shift in universal trend from synthetic to herbal medicine, which we can say ‘Return to Nature’, there is a need to debate on the ways further, for their practice and integration with the mainstream medical systems, especially in the light of new amendment to the Drugs and Cosmetic Act 1942, for phytopharmaceuticals. In the present workshop, it is intended to discuss the advantages and opportunities in traditional systems of medicine against the stumbling blocks in their integration with mainstream medical systems in an acceptable way.

The venue:
The workshop will be conducted in Nature Camp at Kulagi. The venue is amidst the forests of Western Ghats, away from crowded human habitats. The invited lectures by the experts & scientists, group discussions, field visits & hands on training on various aspects of medicinal plants amidst the serene nature, are proved to be the lifetime experience for the delegates.
