Nanorobotics_The future of medical technology and medicine

The technology of creating machines or robots at or close to the microscopic scale of a Nanometer (10-9 meters) is called Nanorobotics. The range of devices 0.1-10 micrometers and new biomaterials provides a possible approach to manufacturing Nanorobots sensor having a switch approximately 1.5 Nanometers across.

The first useful application of nanomachines might be in medical technology for identifying and destroying cancer cells and the first operating biological nanorobots are expected to appear in coming 5 years and more complex diamondoid based nanorobots will become available in about 10 years.

WHAT ARE NANOROBOTS (MEDICINES OF FUTURE)
Nanorobots are so tiny that they can easily traverse the human body-having a diameter of about 0.5-3 microns and comprised of components such as :
·         Molecular sorting rotors and a robot arm telescoping manipulator.
·         It has sensors to detect ambient light, infrared light and tilt plus a battery recharge sensor and a pair of tiny antennas in front to detect obstacles.
·         A navigational network may be installed in the body with station keeping navigational elements providing high positional accuracy to all passing nanorobots. This will enable the physician to keep track of the various devices in the body.
·         Nanorobots will be able to distinguish between different cell types by checking their surface antigens by using of chemotactic sensors.
·         When the task of Nanorobots is completed can effuse via the usual human excretory channels and can also be removed by active scavenger system.

ELEMENTS OF MEDICAL NANOROBOTS
Principle element can be Carbon in the shape of diamond because of strength and chemical inertness. Other light elements oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, sulphur, fluorine and silicone can also be helpful. To avoid being attacked by hosts immune system the best choice can be outer coating of diamond and interior vacuum.

THE POWERING OF NANOROBOTS
• The powering of the nanorobots can be done by metabolizing local glucose and oxygen for energy
• Other sources of energy within the body can also be used to supply the necessary energy for the devices
• They will have simple on board computers capable of performing around 1000 or fewer computations per second.
