Startups in new drug discovery_Bugworks and Vitas Pharma

The high cost of research and drug discovery has not deterred start-ups from entering the arena of drug discovery. As the economics times reports, start-ups like Bugworks, Vitas Pharma have entered the field of drug discovery.

 

Across geographies, big pharmaceutical companies seem to have stepped back from research and development (R&D) for new drug discovery in this field. That is simply because it's more profitable to find new drugs that focus on lifestyle and other diseases where efficacy isn't diminished by use. But a couple of startups in India have recently entered the field of drug discovery. Take for instance Bugworks in Bengaluru, co-founded by Anand Anandkumar, Janaki Venkatraman and Santanu Datta, and Vitas Pharma in Hyderabad, co-founded by Radha Rangarajan and Rajinder Kumar.
